UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY INSTALLS SOLAR-POWERED STREETLIGHTS AT EMAXESIBENI TOWN.

In a continued effort to be recognised as a model rural municipality with a vibrant economy and world class service delivery capabilities, the Umzimvubu Local Municipality has in the previous financial year (2024 / 2025) invested close to R1 million for the installation of thirty (30) streetlights, through the Infrastructure Development Department. During the State of the Municipality Address and the Budget Speech event held at Sigundwaneni Village in Ward 10 on the 29th of May 2025, the Mayor pronounced that the Municipality is in the process of installing 30 streets lights at EmaXesibeni in Ward 28. The Municipality can confirm that the installation of these streetlights is nearing completion, with 22 streetlights already installed and fully operational.

“Upon completion, this project will improve pedestrian visibility and personal security and enhance safety by allowing pedestrians and motorists to see each other at night. It will also contribute to the fight against crime, as many criminal activities occur after dark”, said Mayor
Ndevu.

In addition to this, in a parallel effort to uplift rural communities and realise our motto that of “Uphuhliso Kumntu Wonke”, the Municipality has also introduced a contractor appointed at a total investment of R12 million to electrify 288 households across villages in wards 8 and
9, at Sikhemane, Mhluzini, Saphukanduku, Goso, Luxwesa and Dutyini. These life-changing projects will not only bring essential services to these communities but have also created job opportunities and skills development, reinforcing the Municipality’s commitment to inclusive growth”, concluded the Municipal Manager, Mr Tobela Nota.
